Featuring Bourbon vanilla beans from Madagascar
Amadeus vanilla beans are specially selected and supplied directly from the oldest and largest sources of vanilla beans in the world. Because we are actively involved with our vanilla suppliers, when you buy from Amadeus Vanilla Beans, you can be assured of a consistent, reliable source of supply of the highest quality gourmet Bourbon vanilla beans at the most advantageous price.
Amadeus features top quality Bourbon vanilla beans (vanilla planifolia) the most popular variety of vanilla beans commercially available in the United States. We favor the Bourbon vanilla bean produced in Madagascar, a large tropical island off the east coast of Africa which produces approximately 1,000 metric tons of vanilla beans per year.
One of the main flavor components in Bourbon vanilla is vanillin, which imparts the bean with its distinctive vanilla flavor. Our bulk gourmet Madagascar vanilla beans are so rich in vanillin that the vanillin often crystallizes out to the surface of the vanilla bean as shown in the picture below (white crystals on right).
Amadeus' regular vanilla beans are minimum 16cm - long are minimum 17cm - super long are minimum 18cm
Metric conversion - 2.54cm per inch - 16cm ÷ 2.54 = 6.3 inches - 17cm = 6.7 inches - 18cm = 7.1 inches
Another variety of vanilla is the very expensive and comparatively rare vanilla tahitensis bean, formerly found primarily on the tropical Island of Tahiti, as its name implies. Vanilla tahitensis beans are now being grown in significant production quantities in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and we are pleased to offer this high-quality, but far-lower-cost alternative to the Tahitian tahitensis bean. These wonderful beans are low in vanillin content but high in certain "anisyl" compounds, flavor components that gourmet chefs prize for the fragrant, somewhat fruity flavor it imparts to pastries. Try our PNG tahitensis beans for a fabulous complement to your baking recipes, or mix with planifolia beans to make your own blended vanilla extracts or vanilla sugar -- they are incredible!
Amadeus Vanilla Beans now provides premium, high quality gourmet vanilla beans from other country origins.
Featuring Premium Gourmet Vanilla Planifolia (Bourbon-Style) Beans from Uganda
That's right, Uganda! Located in the interior of the African continent, Uganda started producing some truly fine vanilla beans several years ago, using the same bean variety and curing methods pioneered for Madagascar Bourbon vanilla over a hundred years ago. Ugandan vanilla beans are now approaching the finest quality of their Madagascar cousins.
Our Bourbon style vanilla planifolia beans from Uganda are plump, pliable and, most importantly, succulent and flavorful. And because they do not have the same name recognition (yet!) as Madagascar vanilla beans, we are able to offer them at a lower price. But that doesn't mean they are lower in quality - try them in a recipe and we promise you will be delighted! If you are not completely satisfied, return them for a full refund!
Featuring Premium Gourmet Vanilla Planifolia (Bourbon-Style) Beans from Indonesia
Indonesia has long been in the business of growing vanilla planifolia beans, but for many years was in less favor as a source of fine quality beans. Although Indo beans were often cosmetically beautiful, they in the past tended to have a "smoky" smell and flavor, because of the Indonesians' practice of curing their vanilla beans over fire, rather than using the slower, sun-dried method employed in Madagascar.
In the past few years, the Indonesians have begun to adopt the better practices used in curing true Bourbon beans. As a result, their quality has improved to the point where Indo beans can now be found (if one is careful and selective!) that are of very high quality. Because they are still living down their past reputation, however, Indo growers are not able to fetch prices in the same range as true Bourbon (primarily Madagascar) beans.
We have found a source of extremely nice, Bourbon style Indo beans that are plump, moist and flavorful. They are quite long and wonderfully fragrant, with none of the unpleasant, smoky aroma of Indo beans of the past. At the price we were able to negotiate with the source, these beans are an excellent mid-priced alternative for the cost conscious chef. Try them (either alone or mixed in with some Madagascar or Ugandan beans for a blended flavor profile) and we believe you will be thrilled! If you are not completely satisfied, return them for a full refund.
Featuring Premium Gourmet Vanilla Planifolia and Tahitensis Beans from Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Located just south of the equator between Indonesia and Australia, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has begun growing vanilla beans in production quantities that are now starting to hit the world export market.
Our short planifolia vanilla beans from Papua New Guinea are the same beautiful, flavorful gourmet vanilla planifolia beans that come from Madagascar, cured in the traditional way. They are somewhat shorter than our prime Madagascar beans and not as famous, so we are able to offer them at a lower price. But that doesn't mean they are lower in quality - try them and see! If you are not completely satisfied, return them for a full refund.
We are also now offering vanilla tahitensis beans from PNG. These beans are every bit as high-quality, but at a far lower cost, than their cousins from Tahiti. These wonderful beans are low in vanillin content but high in certain "anisyl" compounds, flavor components that gourmet chefs prize for the fragrant, somewhat fruity flavor it imparts to pastries. Try our PNG tahitensis beans to add a wonderful, rich flavor profile to all your baking recipes, or mix in with some planifolia beans to make your own blended vanilla extracts or vanilla sugar -- they are incredible!
